New Melton Hospital
Melton is one of Australia's fastest-growing communities, with a rapidly expanding population that has long outpaced local healthcare infrastructure. New Melton Hospital will be the cornerstone of health services for Melbourne's outer west - a 274-bed facility with a 24/7 emergency unit, surgical, maternity, neonatal and mental health services, designed to grow alongside the community it serves.

Supporting the Victorian Government to meet the healthcare needs of one of Australia's fastest-growing communities
Melton's population has grown dramatically over recent decades, creating an urgent need for a major new hospital on Melbourne's outer western fringe. In 2024, the Victoria Health Building Authority selected the Exemplar Health consortium - comprising Invesis and Lendlease - under a 25-year PPP contract to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the new hospital.
Lendlease is delivering construction, with Honeywell responsible for hard FM and Compass for soft FM services. The hospital will provide 274 inpatient beds, 395 points of care and a 24/7 emergency unit, alongside ICU, maternity, neonatal, mental health and surgical services.
A learning pavilion will support university collaboration, helping attract specialist staff to the region. The design is engineered for future expansion without disrupting daily operations, and the hospital is due to open in April 2029.
Building Australia's first fully electric hospital and setting a new benchmark for sustainable healthcare
New Melton Hospital will be Australia's first fully electric hospital - completely eliminating natural gas and operating entirely on electricity, with fossil fuels permitted only for emergency backup. On-site solar PV and high-efficiency plant will support a 100% renewable energy supply.
The facility is targeting a 5-star Green Star Building rating and a 5-star NABERS energy rating, both to be maintained for the life of the concession. Honeywell, as hard FM contractor, is contractually required to deliver an annual energy efficiency programme, conduct post-occupancy evaluations and maintain the NABERS 5-star rating throughout - with payment deductions applicable for failure to meet these standards.
Creating a model for future health projects in Melbourne
- The hospital will operate entirely on electricity with no natural gas connection - Australia's first fully electric hospital and a landmark for sustainable healthcare design nationwide.
- On-site solar PV and high-efficiency plant will support a 100% renewable energy supply, with 5-star Green Star and NABERS ratings contractually required for the life of the concession.
- Monthly service payments are linked to Local Content and Major Project Skills targets, ensuring employment and training benefits flow to the Melton community throughout construction and beyond.
- Lendlease's Next Steps pilot programme supported 17 out of 18 participants in completing a pathway into construction, with a second programme launching in 2026.
- A First Nations inclusion programme - the Birri Beginnings pilot - is planned for 2026, alongside a Women in Trades bootcamp and a School-to-Work programme.
- The facility is designed with future expansion in mind, with a flexible structural grid and learning pavilion ensuring it can grow alongside the Melton community.
