BAM changes top structure to maximise focus on business lines

Bunnik, the Netherlands, 6 December 2018 – Royal BAM Group nv will change the top structure of the company in the first quarter of 2019. BAM will establish an Executive Committee in addition to a two-person Executive Board, consisting of CEO R.P. (Rob) van Wingerden, MBA and CFO L.F. (Frans) den Houter, RC.

The Executive Committee will consist of the Executive Board, two newly to be appointed Chief Operating Officers (one for the business line Construction and Property and one for the business line Civil engineering), a new Chief Business Excellence Officer, as well as the Chief HR Officer S.J.J. (Sven) Van de Wynkele, MSc. The Executive Committee will decide (with final responsibility lying with the Executive Board) on strategic issues and policies, based on input from the operating companies and the staff departments.

The selection process for the newly to be appointed executives is ongoing, with both internal and external candidates being eligible.

In the context of this change, E.J. (Erik) Bax, MBA has decided to step down as COO and member of the Executive Board of the company, effective 1 March 2019. After Mr Bax had announced that he wanted to pursue other activities, he was reappointed for one year by the General Meeting this year to ensure continuity, partly in the light of the then vacant CFO position.

Harrie Noy, chairman of the Supervisory Board: “After careful consideration, it was decided to change the top structure of BAM to bring it more in line with the priorities, as stated in the strategy ‘Building the present, creating the future’. We are grateful to Erik Bax for the contribution he has made to BAM’s development over the past five years and wish him every success with his new activities.”

CEO Rob van Wingerden: “Our strategy is clear, but the implementation requires reinforcement. With the appointment of a COO for each of our two business lines, we create more focus on our strategic and operational priorities. The newly to be appointed Chief Business Excellence Officer will be responsible for further improvement of our tender procedures, the realisation of procurement synergies, the acceleration of digital construction and the improvement of the management of especially larger projects. By bringing together executives in an Executive Committee, each with a clear responsibility, we are better able to use our economies of scale in line with our One BAM philosophy. This leads to more synergy, more efficient working, faster innovations and better project management, with the purpose of achieving predictable performance in line with our financial targets.”
