Working with West Sussex County Council to design, build and manage three outstanding secondary schools in Crawley

West Sussex County Council required three new secondary schools to meet growing demand in Crawley and accommodate a change in the age of transfer from primary to secondary education. A 30-year PFI contract was awarded in 2004 to deliver and manage the facilities.

The project's investor is Aberdeen Investments, with Invesis providing MSA and SPV management throughout the concession. BAM Construction delivered all three schools - Oriel High School (1,450 pupils), Thomas Bennett Community College (1,450 pupils) and Ifield Community College (1,100 pupils). Oriel was built in just 54 weeks - approximately 22 weeks faster than conventional delivery - enabling it to open for the 2004/2005 academic year.

The schools were designed with a strong emphasis on natural ventilation and daylight to reduce energy demand. BAM FM manages hard and soft FM services across all three sites. Handback is due in 2035.
