Supporting East Renfrewshire Council to modernise schools and improve learning environments across the region
East Renfrewshire Council identified overcapacity and poor-condition facilities across several schools as barriers to delivering quality education across the region. A PPP programme was commissioned to replace two schools and extend two others, improving facilities for thousands of pupils.
In 2004, East Renfrewshire Council awarded the contract under a 25-year PPP. The programme replaced Williamwood High School and Carlibar Primary School with new facilities, and extended Mearns Castle and Woodfarm High Schools to increase capacity. BAM Construction delivered the programme in phases between December 2005 and July 2006, with BAM FM providing ongoing facilities management.
The investor in the project is Abrdn, with Invesis providing SPV management throughout the concession. Close collaboration with the Council during the design phase ensured each facility reflects the distinct character and educational ethos of its community. Handback is due in December 2031.
