Supporting Bristol City Council to raise attainment and broaden opportunity across four communities in north and south Bristol

Bristol's secondary school estate needed significant investment to raise attainment and modernise facilities for communities across the city. In 2004, Bristol City Council selected Invesis under a 26-year PFI contract to design, build, finance, operate and maintain four schools: Bedminster Down School (1,080 pupils), Blaise School (945 pupils), Orchard School (1,080 pupils) and Oasis Academy (95 pupils). BAM Construction delivered all four schools, which opened in phases between August 2005 and March 2006, with BAM FM providing ongoing facilities management.

The schools were designed to serve their communities beyond the school day, with Blaise School incorporating new community leisure facilities and a public swimming pool. Oasis Academy includes a 36-pupil autistic centre, ensuring the programme meets the needs of pupils with additional learning requirements. Since opening, Bedminster Down School has seen the proportion of students achieving five GCSEs rise from approximately 23% to around 50%.

From a community swimming pool to a specialist autistic centre - four schools designed to serve pupils, families and communities across Bristol.
