BAM PPP consortium selected Preferred Bidder on Egied Van Broeckhoven School, Belgium.

BAM PPP, as part of the ABC 02 consortium, has been awarded Preferred Bidder status on the Egied Van Broeckhoven School in Belgium by the Flemish Government.

The Egied Van Broeckhoven School (EVB) is a new Dutch-speaking secondary education Jesuit school in Molenbeek, in the Brussels region. It is the first project within a larger school building programme which will see 40 schools procured through public-private partnerships. In total, approximately 250,000 m² of new school buildings.

The design, build, finance and maintenance of the new school will be carried out by the ABC 02 consortium, consisting of BAM PPP PGGM and Alheembouw as the contractual counterparty in the agreement to be signed with the client Ignatius schools; Alheembouw as D&B partner and BAM FM as M&O partner.

Flemish Minister of Education Ben Weyts says, “The new school Egied Van Broeckhoven relieves the pressure on popular Dutch-language education in Brussels. In addition to the classrooms for practical and theory subjects, the new school building will also include project spaces, an auditorium, an open learning landscape, a multifunctional room, a sports hall, 13,000 m² of new or renovated building space with an estimated investment of 24 million euros”.

The Egied van Broeckhovenschool is a project of the non-profit association Ignatian Schools in Motion. The new school will be located in the buildings of the former Vandenheuvel brewery, within walking distance of the West station in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean. It will offer a unique combination of general (ASO), vocational (BSO) and technical (TSO) courses within two study domains: the science domain ‘STEM’ (Science, Technology, Engineering en Mathematics) and the care domain ‘Society and Welfare’. In the school, 860 pupils will be able to follow career paths, technical courses and vocational courses with a focus on the labour market.

This is the first time that the Jesuits have set up a Dutch-language school for general, technical and vocational education within their Ignatian pedagogical network. For this they are inspired by Egied Van Broeckhoven, Jesuit and priest-worker, and active in Kuregem in the sixties. With this new school, Dutch-speaking education in Brussels is also trying to meet the capacity needs in secondary education in the capital.

The school will also be a meeting place for young people from the local area outside school hours, providing people from a culturally diverse neighbourhood the opportunity to connect and interact. The school building will act as a community hub and be part of the social fabric of the city. www.egied.be
