BAM has joined the newly established platform ‘Professionals in PPP’ in the Netherlands. On behalf of BAM, COO Erik Bax recently signed the declaration of participation at the offices of the Rijksvastgoedbedrijf (National Real Estate Agency) in The Hague. Through this platform, government and industry have committed to further develop their collaboration in PPP projects, especially in the operational phase.
The programme has been organized by PPS Network Netherlands and Reset Management. The aim of the platform is for participants to investigate the principles behind successful PPP projects, share knowledge and experience based on the their learning experiences and implement PPP projects as smoothly as possible.
Participants in ‘Professionals in PPP’, which includes both clients and contractors, are Rijkswaterstaat (National Highways and Waterways Agency), Rijksvastgoedbedrijf (National Real Estate Agency), the four Dutch ministries of Finance, Defense, Security and Justice, Infrastructure and Environment, the Dutch tax office, BAM, Ballast Nedam, ISS, Bouwend Nederland (Dutch employers’ organization for construction and infrastructure), Facility Management Netherlands, TBI, Heijmans, VolkerWessels, Strukton, Dura Vermeer, Facilicom, FM Haaglanden, Strabag, Turner & Townsend and Mott MacDonald.
Public-private partnerships (PPP) are increasingly used for the renovation and construction of building and infrastructure projects. This is driven by rapid developments in technology, governments with more complex objectives but with limited budgets, combined with the need to operate sustainably. PPP projects are usually completed within time and budget and with more quality than traditional projects. However, the operational phase in particular often proves more difficult than previously thought.
BAM takes a leading position for the realization of PPP projects in its European home markets, with more than forty PPP projects in its portfolio. BAM PPP leverages the strength, experience and expertise within the Group by a coordinating role in providing lifecycle solutions for clients in the public sector. The company focuses on the European home markets, where the Group has proven to be skilled and knowledgeable in the area of construction and maintenance. Operating from offices in Bunnik, Brussels, Birmingham, Dublin, Frankfurt am Main and Glasgow, BAM PPP is active in the road, rail, education, healthcare, judicial and general accommodation sectors and is well positioned to access most Western European markets.
