BAM wins two PPP contracts for prisons in Belgium

 

Bunnik (the Netherlands) – Beveren/Dendermonde (Belgium), 28 June 2011 – The Belgium Buildings Agency (Regie der Gebouwen/Régie des Bâtiments) and BAM PPP have reached financial close on the  contracts for the provision of two prisons in Beveren and Dendermonde, which will house 312 and 444 inmates respectively. The two projects have a joint construction value of more than €160 million.

 

Responsibility for the construction and maintenance (for the next 25 years) of both prisons is in the hands of two Belgian BAM operating companies, Interbuild and Galère. The building work on the two projects is due to start in October 2011 and they are expected to be completed by mid-2013. Both buildings have been designed by a joint venture of Stéphane Beel Architecten, M. & J-M. Jaspers – J. Eyers & Partners and Archivolt Architecten.

The project is being financed by ABN AMRO Bank NV – Dexia Bank Belgium NV/SA – KBC Bank NV.

The PPP contracts include responsibility for maintaining the buildings and the surrounding greenery for 25 years, and the provision of facility services, such as catering, laundry and waste management, for renewable five-yearly periods.
