One hundred and seventy-four households in Western Sydney will experience housing stability thanks to funding secured by Bridge Housing through the Housing Australia Future Fund Facility (HAFFF) and the National Housing Accord Facility (NHAF).
Housing Australia is delivering this essential funding pipeline to make positive generational change to Australia’s housing supply.
As an award-winning community housing provider, Bridge will provide social and affordable housing to people on low to moderate incomes who are in rental stress. The project is supported by Housing Australia, ensuring a strong funding pipeline that creates generational change in housing supply across Australia.
Housing Australia CEO Scott Langford said:
“Through the HAFFF and NHAF and strong partnerships, Housing Australia is proud to be part of the solution to the acute shortage of social and affordable homes across the country, including Merrylands in Sydney’s west.
Bridge’s CEO Laurie Leigh applauded this vital step towards solving unmet housing need in Sydney’s West:
“With over 12% of the local population in need of affordable housing, this is a transformational project for Western Sydney* This new social and affordable housing will help to rebalance housing supply and provide much-needed stability and hope.”
“We look forward to welcoming 174 households, including key workers and women impacted by family violence and older women at risk of homelessness into the Bridge Housing community. Located within walking distance of transport, shopping centre and he Merrylands town centre, this initiative will offer a foundation for our tenants as part of a vibrant local community.”
“Construction on these Bridge homes is planned to commence in October 2025, with completion anticipated in late 2027.” stated Laurie Leigh.
“None of this would be possible without government investment. Ongoing support is critical to tackling the housing crisis and ensuring more people can access the homes they need. Together, we’re building stronger, fairer communities where everyone has a place to call home, now and into the future” she concluded.
Global infrastructure investor, Invesis is joining Housing Australia and Bridge Housing to deliver the project. This collaboration is supported by Australian infrastructure consultants Capella Capital.
“At Invesis, we’re passionate about investing in infrastructure that makes a tangible difference to people’s lives. The Merrylands project is a powerful example of how collaboration between government, community housing providers and investors can unlock long-term social value. We’re proud to be partnering with Bridge Housing and Housing Australia to deliver homes that will strengthen communities and provide lasting security for families across Western Sydney.” – Simon Hunter, Head of Australia and New Zealand, Invesis.
“Capella Capital is pleased to have supported Bridge Housing on the delivery of critical social and affordable housing in Merrylands. This project shows how community housing providers can bring together government, investors and developers to deliver a spectrum of community housing solutions that cannot be delivered by private market/sector partnerships alone.
