The innovation

SPV General Manager Rory O’Callaghan explains explains how BAM’s team tackled this major new development for the Bromsgrove area.

„The BAM Invesis team worked closely with the Council to provide a first-class learning environment which offered the young people and adults within Bromsgrove and Alvechurch a high quality education and lifelong learning opportunity in superb new surroundings.“

„We were able to create a real sense of partnership between the council and Invesis which resulted in a new benchmark being set on design excellence in Private Finance Initiative schools.“

Good examples of those design standards can be seen in South Bromsgrove High School which included technology-rich breakout zones overlooking the ambient atrium which were created to allow students to do individual and project work.

Alvechurch Middle and Crown Meadow First is a two-storey building designed for 660 students. The two schools benefit from being able to share a number of facilities including a sports hall and dining area. The attached school library is available for use by both schools but is also open to the general public.

Ongoing relationship

In line with its successful approach to education projects, Invesis is committed to an ongoing relationship with the local community.

Rory continued: „This project was the first in which Invesis employed a Learning resource coordinator. Throughout the construction phase, he worked with all of the schools to establish learning support programmes for junior through to high school ages.

„Even after construction was completed, the learning resource role continued. It was primarily self-funding with the coordinator undertaking training for potential trades operatives at one of the high schools.“

The South Bromsgrove High School development won a prestigious design award, winning Bromsgrove Society’s Architectural award with the judges praising its „outstanding contribution to the quality and appearance of our district“.
